Review of the Rtx 2080 Ti
The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti has a processor called TU102, although it isn’t a full central processing unit. The RTX 2080 Ti contains 544 CUDA cores, 544 Tensor cores, 68 RT cores, 544 texture units, and 34 PolyMorph engines (with two TPCs disabled). The reason for this could be that Nvidia needed to make way for a Titan-class model, or it could be that the production yields of fully functional GPUs above a certain bin were inadequate.
By disabling one of TU102’s 32-bit memory controllers and rerouting data to TU102’s 88 ROPs and 5.5MB of L2 cache, a combined 352-bit bus is established. Nvidia’s GPU is paired with Micron’s MT61K256M32JE-14:A modules. Eleven are installed on the PCB of the RTX 2080 Ti, while one is missing. As a result of GDDR6’s higher data rate compared to that of previous-generation GPUs, peak bandwidth has the potential to expand dramatically. A 352-bit interface doubles the data transfer rate to 616 GB/s @ 14 Gb/s. However, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti’s 11 Gb/s GDDR5X memory bandwidth cap meant it could only achieve 484 GB/s.
Keeping the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti cool allows the Founders Edition card’s initial core frequency of 1350 MHz to climb to the typical GPU Boost rate of 1635 MHz. Additionally, Nvidia’s highest-end model can accomplish single-precision arithmetic at speeds of up to 14.2 TFLOPS, as measured by GPU Boost figures, which characterise peak computation capacity.
The frequency is higher than Nvidia’s reference specification. Therefore, the Founders Edition product has a slightly higher TDP rating of 260W. To some extent, a PCIe slot, an eight-pin power connector, and a six-pin power connector could all work together to meet such a stipulation. Instead, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition comes with two extra 8-pin connectors from Nvidia, which may be used for overclocking.
Returning from the PCIe ports to the power supply of the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, we can see that there are three phases for the GDDR6 memory and a corresponding PWM controller up front. There are still 13 stages to go, per Nvidia’s estimates. But it can’t be right, right? In a circuit with six phase-doubled phases, one phase would still be free to act as a load balancer. The eight-pin connectors appear to be a duplication that supplies power to five phases. With two control loops each phase, the total number of voltage regulation circuits is 10. The remaining three phases to the left of the GPU come from the motherboard’s PCIe slot and are not duplicated. In this case, Nvidia can consider the number 13 to be a blessing (along with a smart load distribution scheme). Obviously, necessary components are required for efficient use of all this.
